Tagadas | The Growing List of Specialist Flash Sale Clubs

A new private flash sales club site a (members-only online designer outlet store running time-limited deals) has just launched in the UK, Tagadas, a Vente Privée/Gilt for parents, selling hip baby/kids wear (similar sites in the US exist (theminisocial, zulily, btrendie, kids.woot)).

Tagadas (named after Tagada, the wondrous French strawberry candy) will run “fabulous sales for smart parents” every three days, and is the latest example of a growing trend – member-get-member powered private flash sale clubs specializing in a specific vertical – other than usual suspect of designer fashion-ware for women.

With e-commerce software now supporting flash sales (Magento, Moontoast), and insightful guides for implementing flash sales, we think we’ll be be seeing more of these private flash sale clubs focusing on specific verticals and specific demographics.  We also think private flash sale sites continue to represent a proven social commerce opportunity for brands (offering a VIP brand experience), retailers (online sales events) and startups (hosting private sales).

Is there a flash-sales vertical or demographic you could own?

  1. Thanks for this info Paul.

I’ve been trying to find out what’s happening with some of these vertical-targeted sites.

Have taken a look at Urbanbloke which has been strangely inactive on blogs, FB, twitter etc. for 6 months or so. They still have a couple of sales on their page so look to still be going, but does anyone have more intelligence than that?

Interested to work out how much more growth the sector can take before the inevitable shrink back / consolidation.

Thanks to anyone who has any answers
